To make the red and white twist, you need to dye half of the dough red. Any food color works and looks even better, as long as the dough is colored completely.

During the holidays when you’re baking a ton, are surrounded by family and are creating unforgettable memories, these cookies should definitely be baked with the family as they’re fun and easy to make. Plus, everyone will love how incredible they taste! Especially the kids.

Because the dough contains cornstarch, the cookies come out softer and melt in your mouth. Oh man, that just sounds too good to be true but it’s everything you could ever want in a cookie. Right? Right! They are great cookies to dip in a cup of tea, coffee or hot cocoa (that's always a kid favorite).

 Recipe for Candy Cane Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of flour
  • 1 cup of cornstarch
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 200 grams (2 sticks) of butter (at room temperature, not cold from the fridge)
  • Red food coloring

Easy Candy Cane Cookies

Preparation:

  1. Set the oven to 180°C/ 360°F with the fan.
  2. In a mixer bowl, add flour and cornstarch.
  3. Add the sugar salt, milk, vanilla and eggs.
  4. Add the butter and mix well with the paddle attachment.
  5. Divide the dough to 2 parts.
  6. Dye one part with the red food coloring.
  7. Knead the dough a bit until it is completely colored.
  8. Roll the 2 types of dough into strings. Start with the white dough and roll all of it into strings otherwise, you'll end up with pink strings.
  9. Take a string of each color and roll them together to complete the candy cane look.
  10. Place all the cookies on a baking pan lined with baking paper.
  11. Bake the cookies for 10 minutes.
  12. Cool at room temperature.
  13. Have a cookie and happy holidays!
