Healthy Edamame appetizer
This yummy dip is vegan, gluten free and only requires 5 ingredients. It’s perfect for nosh time and you have to try it. Edamame is very common as a nosh/snack with a drink AND it is healthy! So I decided to serve it a little different than just in pods and instead, made a dip out of it.
Other dip recipes I shared on the blog are my lentil dip, and my quick pink beet hummus. If you are hosting guests and want to have few options then be sure to check them out.
Edamame is another name for soybeans that are known to be rich in protein, fibers, vitamin K, and more. When you have a snack that is that healthy then it takes the guilt off of snacking!
Ingredients and process
To whip this edamame dip, you will need –frozen peeled edamame, olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper. For garnish, I added cilantro leaves, you can omit or garnish with whatever herb you have.
If you like spicy dips then you can add some chili flakes as well.
All you need to do is cook the edamame for a short time and then blend everything together - very simple!
This dip can be used as a spread on bread as well, or you can add flavor and texture to salads or Buddha bowls using it. I like to have it with potato chips.
Tips
Perfectly Cooked Edamame
Ensure your edamame is cooked to perfection by boiling them for just the right amount of time, about 5-7 minutes. Overcooking can result in a mushy texture, so keep an eye on them for optimal tenderness.
Seasoning Sensibly
Adjust the salt and pepper according to your taste preferences. Remember, you can always add more seasoning later, so start with a conservative amount and gradually increase as needed.
Blending Technique
Achieve a smooth and creamy consistency by blending the ingredients thoroughly in a high-powered blender. Stop occasionally to scrape down the sides and ensure everything is evenly mixed.
Customize Your Garnish
Get creative with your garnish by choosing herbs that complement the flavors of the dip. Fresh parsley, cilantro, or chives can add a pop of color and freshness, while a sprinkle of red pepper flakes can add a hint of heat.
Serve with Versatility
While this dip shines as a standalone snack with crackers or vegetable crudites, don't hesitate to explore its versatility. Use it as a spread for sandwiches or wraps, or even as a flavorful topping for baked potatoes or grilled meats.
Make Ahead for Convenience
Prepare the dip in advance and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. This not only allows the flavors to meld together but also ensures you have a convenient snack or appetizer ready to go whenever hunger strikes.
Experiment with Additions
Feel free to experiment with additional ingredients to customize the dip to your liking. Lemon zest, tahini, or a dash of hot sauce can add an extra layer of complexity to the flavor profile.
