    How to make a latte

A Latte is a coffee drink made with espresso and steamed milk. The name is derived from the Italian word and it literally translates to "milk" although the idea is to have coffee with the milk and not to drink just milk on its own.

    Pumpkin spice latte at home

Pumpkin Spice Latte is the ultimate fall drink that you should try...that is if you’re one of the few people who is yet to sip this delicious drink! Think of it like this, it will boost your typical morning cup of coffee thanks to its warm flavor and soothing aroma.

What's in a pumpkin spice latte

The Pumpkin Spice Latte was invented by Starbucks and has many homemade versions. After I shared a homemade pumpkin pie spice recipe, I figured I should put it to the test. My recipe includes a Nespresso coffee that I drink daily at home, complete with some milk foam that I make with the Nespresso milk frother. I added pumpkin puree to my Pumpkin Spice Latte, some versions are only with the pumpkin spice and no actual pumpkin. Now I think that kind of misses the point if you just add the spice but not the pumpkin!

I garnished my drink with a cinnamon stick and sprinkled some more pumpkin pie spice on top. Because the main spice in the mix of pumpkin spice is cinnamon, it adds a simple yet appropriate touch - plus, it’s kind of cool stirring the drink with a cinnamon stick. If you prefer, you can garnish with some whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream to make the drink even more decadent. Just be sure to use a bigger mug so you have space for it!

The amount of sugar in the recipe is up to you - I added 2 teaspoons but you can add more or less according to your taste which is always better with homemade versions of food and drinks.

You can make the drink in a cup to go and enjoy it on a chilly morning on your way to work, I know I would! The recipe yields one cup if you need more, just double or triple the ingredients.

Tips to enhance your Pumpkin Spice Latte-making experience

    Quality Ingredients

Start with high-quality ingredients, including fresh pumpkin puree, good quality espresso or brewed coffee, and fresh spices. This will make a noticeable difference in the final taste.

    Pumpkin Puree

If possible, make your own pumpkin puree from roasted pumpkin rather than using canned puree. It will provide a fresher and more authentic flavor.

    Spice Balance

Adjust the amount of pumpkin spice according to your taste preferences. If you enjoy stronger flavors, you can increase the spice slightly, but be careful not to overpower the drink.

    Milk Choice

Choose the type of milk you prefer—dairy or non-dairy (like almond, oat, or soy milk). Each type of milk will give a slightly different flavor and texture to your latte.

    Milk Frothing

Achieving the perfect milk foam is essential for the latte's creamy texture. Use a milk frother or steam wand if you have one, and practice until you get the desired consistency.

    Sweetness Level

Adjust the sugar amount to suit your sweetness preference. You can use alternatives like honey, maple syrup, or a sugar substitute if desired.

    Brewed Coffee

If you're not using espresso, opt for strong brewed coffee. This will ensure that the coffee flavor stands up to the other ingredients.

    Whipped Cream

If you enjoy extra indulgence, consider topping your latte with a dollop of whipped cream.

    Serve Immediately

Pumpkin Spice Lattes are best enjoyed fresh. Serve right after preparation to savor the flavors and warmth.

    Customize

Make it your own by adding a dash of vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, or even a tiny bit of finely grated orange zest for extra depth of flavor.
