Now here’s an idea of when you want to eat healthy but you’re looking for a change to that same old, regular salad you’re always eating, it’s time to try seaweed salad. Yes, it might sound a little odd, but it’s seriously delicious and it’s an easy recipe to follow.

    Seaweed recipes

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, then you’ll have noticed I already shared a seaweed recipe- seaweed snacks. I truly think it is one of those vegetables that are seriously under estimated and that you only even consider eating it when having sushi, but guys you actually can have it in so many ways! Moreover, it is super healthy - rich with many minerals, iodine and more.

    Dried wakame seaweed

The wakame seaweeds are typically found in a dry, compact form, awaiting transformation into a delectable addition to your culinary creations. To unlock their full potential and prepare them for consumption, a simple yet essential step is required: soaking. This process involves immersing the dry wakame seaweed in water for just five minutes, allowing them to rehydrate and expand, awakening their oceanic essence and rendering them ready to infuse your dishes with their unique and delightful flavors. So, with a quick soak, these humble seaweeds undergo a magical transformation, ensuring that your culinary journey with them is both effortless and rewarding.

    Seaweed salad ingredients

In many traditional Japanese recipes, seaweed salad primarily consists of seaweed paired with cucumbers and rice noodles. However, I chose to put my own twist on this classic by introducing a vibrant array of vegetables while omitting the noodles. This modification not only enhances the salad's nutritional profile but also infuses it with a delightful medley of textures and flavors. The beauty of this adaptation lies in its versatility, as virtually any firm vegetable can be seamlessly incorporated into this salad, allowing you to tailor it to your preferences and create a personalized culinary masterpiece.

Tips to help you master the art of making a fantastic seaweed salad:

    Wakame Seaweed

When choosing dry wakame seaweed, look for vibrant, unbroken pieces. High-quality wakame will have a deep green color and a fresh, oceanic aroma.

    Proper Soaking

Ensure you soak the wakame seaweed for the recommended time, typically around 5 minutes, until they are tender but still have a pleasant bite. Soaking too long can make them mushy.

    Rinse and Drain

After soaking, give the seaweed a good rinse under cold water to remove excess salt and any lingering seawater taste. Drain well to avoid diluting your dressing.

    Uniform Cutting

Cut your vegetables, such as carrots, cucumbers, and bell peppers, into uniform sizes as much as possible. This ensures even distribution of flavors and a pleasing visual appeal.

    Dress Just Before Serving

Mix the salad with the dressing just before serving. This prevents the vegetables from becoming too soggy and maintains their crunch.

    Sesame Seeds

Toast the sesame seeds before adding them to the salad for enhanced flavor. Simply place them in a dry pan over medium heat until they turn lightly golden and release a nutty aroma.

    Adjust Seasoning

Taste your salad and adjust the seasoning as needed. You can add more soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, or pepper to suit your personal preferences.

    Experiment

Don't be afraid to experiment with additional ingredients like sliced avocado, edamame, or pickled ginger to customize your seaweed salad to your taste.
